3V2 Like You Have Never Seen it Before!!

OK, I have been around a long time. And like you I am passionate about the way I run practice yet always looking for new ideas. Having the opportunity to interview so many great coaches offers me a lot of twists on how to keep drills and practice different everyday while focusing on fundamentals. This one kind of blew me away… in out ‘Interview Section’ you can hear Coach Murphy describe how they run the drill in his own words.

In our recent interview with Coach Mike Murphy from Penn, he offered up a twist on 3V2 like I have never seen. We tried it and the kids loved it!! It is really important to keep the kids engaged and learning by keeping the drills different every day. If you do not agree, then save time and skip the rest of this article. But 3V2 does so many things fundamentally, basic slide and recovery fundamentals, quick accurate passing, shooting, spacing and fast pace.

Coach also shared some other ideas, one cradle then pass, location – everyone in the alleys on the side of the field, competition and then this idea. In this variation of the drill we put the cages on the restraining lines. However in this twist, the cages are facing the end lines, away from the center of the field. Think of it as a semi full field 3V2 drill that really gets going from behind the cage.
