Steve Koudelka has established the Lynchburg College men’s lacrosse program as a national powerhouse in his 14 seasons on the sidelines after coming to Lynchburg for the 1997 season. During his tenure, Lacrosse Coach Koudelka has recorded an overall record of 152-73, including 12-straight winning seasons. Lynchburg has advanced into the NCAA Tournament four times in the last seven years.

Koudelka was selected to coach at the 2000 North-South All-Star game and was the past-president of the US Lacrosse Men’s Division Coaches’ Council Executive Committee. He is currently a member of the NCAA Division III Championships Committee. He was one of just 12 goalkeepers invited to try out for the 1998 U.S. World Team. Koudelka played professionally for two seasons with the New Jersey Pride for Major League Lacrosse.

In this interview, Coach talks from the heart on his perception on how kids learn, fundamentals, his lacrosse practice outline broken into three key areas, his situational practice concepts in 4V4 and 6V6, lacrosse drills, the Hippo Lacrosse Drill which I wrote about in my Laxpower column, the transition ‘Genny Drill’ and a great clearing lacrosse drill they call ‘Bang It Off the Wall’ which he credits to Virginia. But the drill I loved was his take on a four corner give and go lacrosse drill, it can be used in place of line drills and makes a great pregame drill as well for lacrosse players.

This lacrosse drill is featured in our free ‘Preview’ podcast below, and in the Article section of the website as well.
