Yale “Box Passing Drill”

We discussed this unique drill with Coach Andy Shay from Yale. The drill is designed to replace line drills under the definition that it is a warm up drill, a passing fundamentals drill, and designed in a way to emulate close looks for passes that will occur in a game. This drill sounds a little easier than it actually is to run, especially at full speed. If you have a younger or less skilled group then slow it down a bit but still focus on the touches and the variations. Please click the link “Box Passing” at the bottom of the post to see how Coach Shay drew it up for us…

The drill moves very fast and has a number of variations, or some you might design for yourself and your team. But first, picture if you will four cones (half cones) set up in a ten yard box. So coaches set up these ten yard squares (before the drill) all over the field.
